This post is inspired by something I did to Clay today. I asked him to take the book of DVD's out of my room and return it to the living room. He gladly picked them up and started walking out. To see what he would do, I told him to be careful of the spider on the back. He immediately dropped the case. I couldn't help but chuckle. I'm afraid I do this way to often, either tease or scare my children (and even my husband too). I get a huge (HUGE!) kick out of making Ryan yell and get into a defensive stance. The past couple times he's mentioned that I was lucky he didn't hit me because of his reflexes. I love it!
A few months ago, the kids had been joking with each other about spiders being on their backs. I decided to jump in and tell KC there was a spider on her back. She flipped out and immediately went into hysterics. I felt bad that time. I thought she'd think I was kidding, just like her brother and sister. I do have to admit that on occasion, I have made the kids cry. Not on purpose, but I guess I can't make them laugh every time. But, I just love sneaking up on them and seeing them jump with surprise. I think it might be genetic. Okay, probably not, but my dad has been known to have given some people a good scare.
There is a good story of my dad. When my oldest sisters were young, they were having a great time jumping on their bed before bedtime. My dad crawled in on his belly into their room and made it under their bed without my sisters seeing. Dad then started lifting the bed up and down. It took a couple times before the girls started to notice. It wasn't until they clustered over to the wall (still on the bed) that they realized that a certain someone or something was under their bed. Sure enough, dad reached up along the wall and grabbed them. To this day, he still laughs so hard.
I know some of my sisters are the same way with their kids and I'm sure some of you might think it's even a little mean, but I get a kick out of it. I love to see their surprised faces turn to a smile and start to laugh with me. Why is it so fun?
